Horizontal Raise Boring
Mechanised excavation for horizontal or near-horizontal access.

With more than 40 years of experience, Master Drilling operates the world's largest raise-boring fleet across demanding mining, civil and energy projects.
Raise boring creates a vertical or inclined excavation between two levels. A pilot hole is drilled to an underground tunnel before a reamer head is attached and pulled back toward the rig.
The method removes cuttings by gravity and limits the need for people inside the excavation, but still depends on skilled operators, reliable down-hole equipment and powerful rigs.
Mechanised excavation for horizontal or near-horizontal access.
Compact equipment for box holes and slot raises in constrained workings.
Large-diameter raises for ventilation, access and material movement.
Steered pilot-hole delivery for projects with exacting alignment needs.
Ventilation shafts, ore passes, service raises and underground access.
Metro, rail, flood-water, waste and other underground infrastructure.
Hydroelectric, pumped-storage and specialised underground energy access.

The fundamental method remains recognizable, while larger and more accurate machines, improved cutters and continuous operational data have expanded the depth and diameter of feasible projects.
Cutter selection, loading, rotation and support plans are adapted to the strength, abrasiveness and structure of the formation identified for each project.
Experienced operators interpret machine response and changing ground conditions early, supporting safety, equipment life and excavation accuracy.
Data logging, remote support and automated control continue to improve, while accountable people remain essential for planning and changing field conditions.
